Bali: An Island of Temples

Bali is probably one of the most famous destinations in Indonesia. There are definitely a lot of reasons why… beaches, night life, food and well, uhm… temples maybe? LOL. I and my friends only had three days to explore the island which includes the travel days. In order to get the most out of our Balinese experience, we decided to avail of a one-day tour through the packages offered by Amazing Bali Tours. For USD 45 per head, we were able to visit the famous Balinese temples and ate their traditional food during lunch.

The Rubbles of the Angkor Empire

It was ten in the morning and the scorching sun is too much to bear. But thanks to the breathtaking view of the Angkor Wat, I did not mind the heat. I felt like I traveled back in time with all these archaeological treasures.

“Ok, time to go to our next destination”, said the tuktuk driver we hired. I thought I have seen all of what the temple complex has to offer, but I was wrong. Now, I’m getting really, really excited.

Greeting the Sunrise at Batu Caves

Known to be the home of the tallest golden statue of Lord Murugan, a Hindu diety, Batu Caves is a sacred hill and a series of caves for Hindus. Although not located in Kuala Lumpur, it is very near the capital city and can be reached through KTM Komuter train. This sacred cave is one of those free tourist attractions in Malaysia.

Beautifully crafted by time. That’s what Angkor Wat is for me. It  is a temple complex located at Siem Reap, Cambodia and is the largest religious monument in the world.

The temple is a paradise for history-lovers and archaeology enthusiasts. But for adrenaline-seekers, it is nothing but a not-too-interesting ruins from the past.

Wat Arun: The Steepest Stairs I’ve Encountered

Across Wat Pho is the Temple of Dawn, the Wat Arun. It is again one of the famous temples in Bangkok. According to Mr Google, the temple derives its name from the Hindu god Aruna who is often personified as the radiations of the rising sun. But what drove me to visit this wat? It is because of its “very steep flight of stairs”. I wonder how steep it is.

It’s my first time to enter a place as grand as Bangkok’s. This is where the King lives and I am happy that they turn this wonderful place to a tourist spot. I’m in awe with the intricacy of the decorations that each structure have inside the complex.
